What? you sell houses, of course you’re a salesman. I hear you mumbling.
Well this is how I look at myself and my business model.
I believe that buyers are called so for a reason. They go out and buy, If you use permission marketing(I will write a post about this method of marketing on another day) to reach these people. You don’t need to sell anything. They will see you have something they want to buy and you will assist them in the process of buying a home. No need for the cheap sales pitches like some life insurance salesman use “I will give you a call in the morning, if you’re still alive you can decide if you need life insurance”
On the other side of the transaction I assist the seller to market their property to as many potential buyers as possible. Make no mistake I could quite easily sell you almost anything, many people have told me they believe I could sell ice to an Eskimo. The truth is I probably could. The reason I don’t is you won’t get referrals if you rip people off.
Although this is my belief and the way I do things I still expect my agents to sell. I expect them to be salesman. To sell houses instead of assisting buyers and sellers find and achieve what they want and need.
I never realised this until 30 minutes ago when I read this excellent post titled Paradigm Shift: Changing the Human Experience
You see when I see one of my team members I normally ask them how many sales they did since I last saw them. In our office I have a board that shows who has sold what. At our weekly meetings I ask what they need me to do to help them sell more houses. Make no mistake I am in business to make money, although I believe we are worrying to much about the numbers and not focusing on the people. This is a people business not a property business.
If you look after people first the money will follow. I am going to make an effort to get my agents to focus more on the people and helping them instead of selling houses. So from now on I will ask : What can we do to help Mr Van wyk reach his goal?
